Laser hair removal is a permanent solution to unwanted hair on legs, back, face, underarms, abdomen, bikini line, and more. Using a laser light—pulsating beams of powerful light—the hair follicles and bulbs are subjected to intense heat, which destroys the follicle and results in long-term or permanent hair removal.
Laser Hair Removal: What to Expect
During a laser hair removal procedure, a laser light is pressed against the skin for a fraction of a second—just enough time to generate heat and destroy the hair follicle. The length of time for the procedure depends on the treatment area.
While one laser hair removal treatment may eliminate thousands of hairs, multiple treatments over a course of several weeks and months are usually required to achieve smooth, silky skin. This is because hair grows in cycles and the laser light only affects the actively growing hair. With each additional treatment, significantly less hair grows back resulting in permanent hair reduction.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Do I Need?
The number of laser hair removal treatments is different for every person. Hair color, skin color, metabolism, age, and coarseness of hair are all factors that affect hair growth cycles. Typically, after six months of treatment, about 60 percent to 95 percent of all unwanted hair is removed.
