Halo™ by Sciton®: The First Hybrid Fractional Laser in the World!

Maybe you haven’t heard, but this two-for-one fractional laser has hit the markets and our skin center in Pittsburgh, PA. If you’re looking for solutions to improve your features, this laser can give you all of them and then some. The hybrid fractional laser brings together both fractional ablative and nonablative skin resurfacing for the perfect combination. Avoid straight ablative lasers, and start seeing the positive and less invasive effects that this fractional laser can provide.

What are Fractional Lasers?

Fractional lasers are lasers that treat the area of focus in grids rather than at full blast. This way, only a portion of the skin is damaged, allowing for a faster healing process. The body will heal the damaged area, including the skin around it, which offers similar results to non-fractional lasers. It’s win-win!

Halo™ by Sciton® is a fractional laser that offers you the best of both worlds. It gives you the results of an ablative fractional laser, but with the non-ablative downtime. How it does this is by using two different wavelengths: 1470nm of non-ablative coagulation and 2940 nm Er. YAG wavelength for ablation.

Ablative Lasers

Ablative lasers are used to treat:

  • Sagging Skin
  • Extreme Sun Damage
  • Textured Moles
  • Acne Scarring
  • Deep Wrinkles
  • Crepey Skin (chicken-like skin on your neck and eyelids)

Non-Ablative Lasers

Non-Ablative lasers are used to treat:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Surface Scarring
  • Fine Lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Sun Damage

Downtime:

Because these lasers focus on the under layers of the skin, rather than the surface, they have a lot less downtime than ablative. Using a wide spectrum of radio frequencies and non-coherent light, it not only helps to improve the appearance and texture of your skin, but also promotes the growth of collagen.

Halo™ by Sciton® takes all of these positive results and puts them into just one hybrid fractional laser to help benefit you and your skin and give you the look you deserve. At Acqua Blu Medical Spa, we want to provide solutions that are as non-invasive as possible. If you want to learn more about how this treatment can benefit you, please contact us today by calling:  724-933-1800. We also offer hair removal near Upper Saint Clair, PA that can leave your skin looking even smoother for spring.

What is the Difference Between Ablative and Non-Ablative Lasers for Skin Treatment?

Regardless of the nature of your skin damage, we have the newest non-invasive and cosmetic spa services in Pittsburgh, PA. If you’re considering laser treatment, there are many different options available, and it can be difficult to decide between them. The first step in choosing is to start learning the basic differences between ablative and non-ablative lasers.

Ablative Lasers

Of the two types of lasers used in skin treatment today, ablative lasers are more aggressive, but they also produce the best clinical results. They work by vaporizing the outermost layers of the skin, giving your body the opportunity to regrow new skin. Ablative lasers are used primarily to treat:

  • Acne scarring
  • Pigmentation irregularities
  • Lesions
  • Extreme sun damage
  • Deep-set wrinkles
  • Loose skin.

There are two primary ablative lasers: Fractional CO2 lasers and Fractional Erbium lasers. Using a fractional method, both of these lasers work in columns rather than treating the full surface of your skin, which allows for the areas around the treated skin to show results in half the time. This process increases collagen production and heals the skin, eliminating flaws and giving you a youthful glow that can last up to five years.

  1. Fractional CO2 lasers:
  • Strongest
  • Has the ability to go the deepest
  • Most profound tightening of the tissue
  • Highest chance for depigmentation
  • Longest recovery time (8-10 days avg.)

  1. Fractional Erbium lasers:
  • Not as strong as CO2, but stronger than all non-ablative
  • Best for superficial blemishes
  • Good for improving skin texture
  • Not recommended for stretch marks
  • Moderate recovery time (5-7 days avg.)

Non-Ablative Lasers

Unlike ablative lasers, non-ablative lasers heat the targeted tissue without decimating them, effectively signaling your body to produce more collagen, which gently resurfaces the skin. Non-ablative resurfacing focuses on the layers beneath the surface so that the skin heals from the inside out. Due to non-ablative lasers being mild in nature, multiple treatment sessions are typically necessary to achieve a more drastic difference. On the other hand, there is much less room for unexpected subsequent side effects, and they require far less rest time between treatments.

If you are looking at laser treatment for cosmetic purposes specifically, non-ablative lasers are most likely the right fit for you. These lasers are most widely used for tattoo removal, pigment correction, and slighter forms of aging and sun damage. Non-ablative lasers are our choice for the best hair removal in Pittsburgh, PA. While there are many options, we recommend considering one of the following four kinds of non-ablative lasers.

  1. Fraxel Re:Store:
  • Corrects pigmentation
  • Heals sun damage
  • Treats acne scars
  • Fills in fine lines
  • 2-3 treatments needed
  • Modest recovery time (4-5 days avg.)

  1. Pulsed-Dye Laser (PDL):
  • Focus on veins
  • Corrects rosacea
  • Works on stretch marks
  • Perfect for getting rid of broken capillaries
  • Virtually no recovery time (1 day avg.)
  • NOT FOR dark skin

  1. Intense Pulsed Light Laser (IPL):
  • Best treatment for hyperpigmentation
  • Eliminates age spots
  • Used for melasma
  • Only for lighter skinned patients
  • Should not be used for those with keloid scars
  • CANNOT be used if you have Lupus

  1. Nd:YAG Laser:
  • Mostly used for tattoo removal
  • Excellent for hair removal
  • Treats all kinds of vascular lesions
  • Corrects pigmented lesions
  • Can treat hemangiomas (vascular tumors)
  • Used to improve wrinkles in photo-aged skin
  • In and out procedure (limited healing time)

Every body is different, and everyone’s skin is unique. We want you to be able to choose the best possible option for your specific needs! Now that you know more about the difference between ablative and non-ablative lasers, you can feel confident during your next consultation at our skin center in Pittsburgh, PA. Contact us today!

5 Ways Your Face Changes as You Get Older

We all recognize the wrinkles that form and the silver hairs that sprout up out of nowhere, but have you ever wondered how aging alters your face? We want our customers to be informed! So, here are five ways your face changes as you get older, and how you can prevent further aging signs or treat the ones you already have.

  1. Eyes: The shape and size of your eyes never changes as you get older, rather the skin around the eyes, forehead, and upper cheeks begins to stretch and eventually sag. Keeping your skin well moisturized plays a key role in minimizing the sunken-in appearance that aging has to the eyes. Using the proper topicals, you can easily keep the skin around your eyes smooth and elastic. You can try different treatment options such as injectables, dermal fillers, and other spa services in Pittsburgh, PA offered by Acqua Blu Medical Spa that can reverse undereye bags and dark circles caused by aging.

  1. Eyebrows: Your eyebrows can droop with age, creating the appearance of heavy-lidded eyes. Eyes that always look tired can be avoided by using Botox around your eyebrows, which preserves the shape of the brows and lifts them at the arch and tail. This effectively creates the visage of a younger looking face.

  1. Nose: Over time, the internal structures of the nose softens and nasal tissue begins to experience atrophy. These changes cause your nose to look wider and even larger, but fillers help to create the illusion of a thinner, smaller nose.

  1. Jaw: During adolescence, the skin is fresh and hasn’t lost its elasticity. With time, the skin and tissues around the neck and jaw drop, creating jowls that drastically age the face. The sharp angles of the jaw line become lost, making the face less defined in shape. Fillers can help to correct these effects, and skin tighteners can subtly lift the face to redefine the jaw.

  1. Lips: One of the most noticeable marks that age leaves on the face, are the thin red lines that begin to crease along the upper lip. As you age, your lips lose their plumpness and tone, gradually resulting in volume loss. This can be treated with hyaluronic acid fillers that restore the volume to your lips and bring back their youthful pout.

When it comes to your skin, especially on your face, you should be able to trust the quality of the products being used. You should be able to feel confident that any treatment given is chosen to ensure a healthy and flawless result. At our skin center in Pittsburgh, PA, Acqua Blu Medical Spa and Plastic Surgery Center offers a diverse range of solutions, including laser skin resurfacing, non-surgical contouring, dermal fillers, and an array of other specialized treatments. Don’t forget to ask about our laser hair removal procedures so you can get the best hair removal in Pittsburgh, PA!

Dermaplaning: For Skin that is Baby Soft

What does your skin care regime look like–feel like? When you touch your face, does it seem like your skin is as soft as a baby’s? If it doesn’t or if you are in need of a change, you should consider dermaplaning. This form of skin care is part of Acqua Blu Medical Spa’s spa services in Pittsburgh, PA, with results that will leave you, your friends, family, and loved ones in awe.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning uses a ten-gauge scalpel to remove the top layer of dead skin cells from your face, neck, and decollete skin area. It also is very effective against unwanted vellus hairs. This method of exfoliation will leave you with a brighter and smoother complexion.

Dermaplaning should not to be confused with microdermabrasion, and sometimes can be referred to as simply, “dermabrasion”.

What are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?

  • Exfoliation
As most of you know, exfoliation is a means to keep your skin both healthy and smooth. Get rid of those dead skin cells and reveal the glow underneath! Dermaplaning will help you achieve this, leaving your skin silky and refreshed.

  • Vellus Hairs
Also known as “peach fuzz” or “camel chin”, these tiny hairs layer our face in droves. They can effect your image and the feel of your skin. Dermaplaning will remove these light hair growths for you. But don’t worry! Once removed, they will not grow back darker or thicker, contrary to popular belief.

  • Scarring
Dermaplaning can also be used to smooth out post-surgical scarring as well as minor acne scars. It is a cost-effective means of improving your skin for the better.

When it comes to dermaplaning, it is important to choose the right skin specialists in Pittsburgh, PA, otherwise you may not end up getting the level of treatment that yields the best results. Dermaplaning is also very helpful in the absorption of skin care products, propelling your skin’s health forward even more. It will improve fine lines and wrinkles as well as uneven pigmentation. Dermaplaning may just be the answer you were always looking for. Let the new you be polished with this pain-free method!
