Microdermabrasion vs Chemical Peels
Microdermabrasion, done here with DiamondTome, sands away the outer layer of skin mechanically, with very little downtime, and is recommended monthly. A chemical peel works with a solution and can reach deeper. PRX Derm Perfexion never visibly peels; the VI Peel brings three to seven days of peeling and a noticeable change after a single session.
Friction at the surface, chemistry beneath it.

Microdermabrasion with DiamondTome
A handpiece with an abrasive surface passes over cleansed skin and sands away the thick outer layer, opening pores and exfoliating what a cleanser cannot reach. Acqua Blu performs microdermabrasion with the DiamondTome system, which exfoliates with diamond chips and suctions the dead skin cells away as it goes.
Your skin is cleansed, steamed to open the pores and cleansed again before the pass begins. It has been described as feeling like sandpaper, but the discomfort is minimal, and any light peeling while it works is only dead skin being brushed off. Because it treats the surface, it is a routine rather than a single event: once a month keeps that layer fresh.
Chemical peels: PRX Derm Perfexion and the VI Peel
A chemical peel is controlled exfoliation with a medical-grade solution that dissolves the outermost layers and pushes the skin beneath to renew. Warmth and tingling during application are normal. The practice deliberately carries two, and they sit at opposite ends of the downtime question.
PRX Derm Perfexion blends TCA with hydrogen peroxide and kojic acid. The peroxide neutralizes the TCA at the surface, so the collagen stimulation happens deep down while the protective outer layer stays intact: no visible peeling, no increased sun sensitivity, and a result that builds over a series.
The VI Peel puts TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol and vitamin C into one medium-depth formula, with peptides that support collagen activity, barrier function and recovery. Peeling begins within two to three days and can run up to a week.
One mechanical, two chemical.Eight ways they differ.
All three are forms of exfoliation. Where they part company is how deep they work, how long you spend recovering, and how often you come back.

Session counts and downtime are typical figures, not guarantees. Your provider confirms the plan for your skin at the consultation.
It comes down todowntime against depth.
Nobody has to choose before the consultation. A provider looks at your skin, your concern and your calendar, then recommends one. These are the situations that usually decide it.
ModelYou want no downtime and a routine
Microdermabrasion once a month, or a PRX series. Both send you straight back to your day: DiamondTome keeps the surface fresh, PRX rebuilds collagen beneath it across repeated sessions.
Your concern is surface dullness
Microdermabrasion or PRX. Dullness, enlarged pores and uneven tone are on both treatments' lists, so the real question is whether you want ongoing upkeep or a series.
You want one bigger step and can spare a week
The VI Peel. Sun damage, melasma and uneven pigmentation are what it is formulated around. Book it at least ten to fourteen days clear of anything important, and let the peeling finish on its own.
Your skin is sensitive or compromised
Assessment comes first. Both peels can suit sensitive skin once your provider has evaluated its tolerance and history. A peel needs intact skin with no active infection or open wounds, and microdermabrasion is avoided over open wounds, eczema or active infection.
You will wear sunscreen every day
Both peels finish with the same rule: daily SPF afterwards, as part of the treatment rather than an extra. After the VI Peel, freshly resurfaced skin is more vulnerable to UV.
Can you have both?
There is no fixed rule for pairing them. Whether microdermabrasion and a peel belong in the same plan, and in what order, is set at the consultation once your skin has been assessed.
Peels already work alongside microneedling, laser treatments and injectables within a larger plan, where the sequence is planned rather than stacked. Before any peel, retinoids, prescription exfoliants and skincare acids come off your routine for at least five to seven days to reduce the risk of over-exfoliation, and the full pre-peel protocol comes with the consultation.

Depends on how many sessions your plan calls for. You get an exact figure once a provider has assessed your skin.
Depends on the complexity of your concerns, the number of treatments recommended, and whether it is combined with complementary therapies. Exact pricing is reviewed at the consultation.
Every plan is priced at a consultation before anything is scheduled.
Five questions we are askedwhen choosing between them.
All three list it among the concerns they treat, by different routes. Microdermabrasion unclogs pores, which helps active acne, and its exfoliation works on the scarring acne leaves behind. PRX Derm Perfexion treats scarring as part of a series, and the VI Peel works on active breakouts and the marks they leave at the same time. Which one suits your skin is the call your provider makes at the consultation.
Microdermabrasion and PRX Derm Perfexion, which both let you go straight back to your day. PRX can leave slight warmth and flushing for a few hours, and thicker areas can flake lightly. The VI Peel is the one with real downtime: peeling starts within two to three days and can last up to a week, so book it at least ten to fourteen days before anything important.
Microdermabrasion once a month, which is the cadence the practice recommends, and a package of four covers it. PRX results build over a series, most often four to six sessions spaced several weeks apart. A single VI Peel produces a visible change, and advanced pigment or acne concerns may call for a short series, decided at your consultation.
A DiamondTome microdermabrasion session is $185, or $720 for a package of four. Peels are priced at the consultation: the figure depends on which peel your skin needs and how many sessions the plan calls for, and for the VI Peel on whether it is combined with other treatments. You get an exact number before anything is scheduled.
Either peel. PRX Derm Perfexion and the VI Peel both treat the neck and chest as well as the face, and treating all three together usually looks more natural than a corrected face above unchanged skin. Microdermabrasion is used on the face and, for stretch marks, on the body.
