Juvéderm in Pittsburgh

A family of hyaluronic acid fillers, each mixed to a different thickness. One lifts a cheek, another smooths a lip line. Which you need is a question about where the volume went.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a family of gels made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar your skin already produces to hold water and stay plump. Because the body recognises it, there is no allergy testing to do first.

The four products differ in one respect that matters: how thick the gel is, and therefore how far it spreads and how much it can hold up. Voluma is the heaviest and goes deep into the cheek to rebuild structure. Volbella is the thinnest and goes into fine lip lines and the delicate skin under the eye. Vollure and Juvéderm XC sit between them, for the folds running from nose to mouth.

Every one of them contains lidocaine, so the anesthetic arrives with the filler rather than as a separate injection beforehand.

Choosing between them is the whole job. A gel that is right for a cheek will look wrong in a lip, and matching product to place is what an injector trained by Dr. Heil is actually for.

The thickest and strongest gel in the family, and the first FDA approved specifically to add volume to the mid-face. Placed deep, it rebuilds structure under a cheek that has flattened. It can hold for up to two years.

The thinnest and most spreadable, which is what makes it safe in the two most delicate places on a face: fine vertical lip lines, and the hollow under the eye. Up to eighteen months.

Both are aimed at the nasolabial folds, smile lines and marionette lines. Vollure is the more durable of the two at up to eighteen months; Juvéderm XC generally runs six to twelve.

Filler is priced per syringe, so the total depends on how many areas are treated and which formulation each one needs. You get an exact figure at the consultation, before anything is placed.

Filler replaces volume. It does not relax anything.

A wrinkle relaxer stops a muscle folding your skin. Filler puts back what time took out from underneath it. If your line is there when your face is completely still, or the problem reads as a hollow rather than a crease, filler is the tool. Many faces want both, and the two are planned together.

  • Something has gone flat

Cheeks that have lost their forward projection, temples that have hollowed, or lips that have thinned with time rather than always been thin.

  • The line sits still

Folds from nose to mouth, or from mouth corner downward, that are visible when your face is completely at rest.

  • You want to see it the same day

Unlike a relaxer, filler works the moment it is placed. Swelling settles over a few days, but the shape is there immediately.

  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Six months to two years depending on the product and the place. Hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body, not stored.

The first syringe of a visit. How much of it your plan calls for is decided with your injector at the consultation, and the exact figure is quoted before anything is placed.

Syringes beyond the first in the same visit cost less, which matters when an area needs more volume than one syringe carries. The full count is agreed at the consultation, not discovered on the bill.

The thinnest gel in the family, used for lips and fine lines where a little product goes a long way. Additional syringes in the same visit are $700, and most plans need a single one, confirmed at the consultation.

Every plan is priced at a consultation before anything is scheduled. No deposits, no surprises.

Four placesvolume goes first.

Faces do not deflate evenly. Fat pads under the cheek shrink and descend, the skin under the eye thins, and the folds either side of the mouth deepen as the support above them drops away.

Five questions we are askedbefore almost every filler appointment.

The volume is there immediately, which is the main way filler differs from a wrinkle relaxer. Most people go straight back to their day. Mild swelling, redness or a small bruise at an injection point is normal and usually settles within a few days.

Anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the product, the place and your own metabolism. Voluma placed deep in the cheek is at the long end; lip and fine-line work with Volbella or Juvéderm XC is at the shorter one.

Most people report brief pinches and a sense of pressure. Every Juvéderm product contains lidocaine, so it numbs as it goes in, and topical numbing can be applied first. Tenderness or swelling afterwards usually settles within a few days.

There is no single answer. People tend to consider filler when they notice volume loss or lines that skincare is not touching. Some come in their twenties for lip or contour work, others in their forties for folds and mid-face volume. It is a decision about your face, not your birthday.

They do opposite jobs. Botox relaxes muscles to soften lines you make by moving, like frown and forehead lines. Juvéderm restores volume to places that have lost it, like cheeks, lips and the folds beside the mouth. Botox develops over several days; filler is visible immediately.
