Lip filler is hyaluronic acid, the same sugar your skin already makes to hold water. Placed into the lip it does three separate things, and most consultations are about deciding which of them you actually want.
It adds volume to a lip that has thinned. It defines a border that has blurred with time. And it corrects asymmetry, which is the reason a lot of people come in and the one they are least likely to name out loud.
The treatment is minimally invasive and quick. The filler carries its own anesthetic, so numbing arrives with the product rather than as a separate step.
Restraint is the entire skill here. Lips are the first place overfilling shows, and the difference between a good result and an obvious one is measured in fractions of a syringe.
Soft, and like your own lip. Swelling in the first day or two makes them look bigger than the settled result, which is worth knowing before you judge the outcome in the mirror that evening.
Brief. Most people return to normal activity straight away. Swelling and occasional small bruising at an injection point settle over a few days, so leave a week before anything photographed.
Typically six to twelve months depending on the product used and your own metabolism. Lips move constantly, which is part of why filler here does not last as long as it does in a cheek.

Yes, when the amount is right. Hyaluronic acid is soft and integrates with the tissue around it, so a properly dosed lip feels like a lip. Firmness usually means too much product rather than the wrong product.
Short. Most people go back to their day immediately. Expect swelling for a day or two and possibly a small bruise at an injection point, and expect your lips to look fuller in that window than they will once settled.
Usually six to twelve months, depending on the product and your metabolism. Lips are in constant motion, which breaks filler down faster here than in areas that move less.
Best to wait a day or so while the product settles and any swelling comes down. Firm pressure on a freshly treated lip is worth avoiding for the first twenty four hours.
Less than people expect. The filler contains lidocaine so it numbs as it is placed, and topical numbing can be used first. Most describe pressure and brief pinches.
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme, which is a genuine advantage of this class of product over permanent ones. It is rarely needed, but it means the decision is not irreversible.
